At a rest stop in early October, I spoke with a mother and a father and their 18 year old son, making their way to Camp Pendleton for his additional training prior to being sent to Iraq. The father had served in Kuwait. Ever since he was a little boy the son had always wanted to serve in the United States military, so he joined the Marines. And now, we’re sending him off to Iraq to possibly die. He does not really want to go. His parents do not want him to go. But he said to me that he would serve this country anywhere, anytime that his Commander-In-Chief ordered him to do. When we were finished speaking, this young Marine reached into his wallet and gave me a small card:
